Recent recommendations of the Vaccination Commission (STIKO) include boys 9 - 14 years of age in the prophylactic vaccination against human papilloma virus. Several cancers (Cervix-, anal-, penile- and ENT-carcinomas) are associated with those viruses. The vaccination aims at reducing the current frequency of 6200 women and 1600 men who develop malignancies caused by HPV in Germany every year. Hopefully this service will be covered by statutory health insurance in the near future. Multivalent vaccines also protect against the most common serotypes causing Condylomata.
